Academic Reflection
During my school year in Iowa state University, I have improve my communication skills by giving lots of presentations. At first, it was hard to give a speech in front of a small class, but after few presentations, I have used to it and I am able to give a speech fluently. Besides, lab work had enhance my knowledge in the engineering filed which I have a better understanding applying theories that I have learnt in my practical lab work. Sometimes, when the lab work is huge, I will have group discussions with my group members to have the lab work done in the most efficient way by having the best design and reducing the time work.
Besides, I have not only learned about the technical knowledge of Electrical Engineering but the non technical areas as well. I have the opportunity to learn different languages such as Japanese language and it will help me to communicate easier when I have a Japanese collegue in the future. Furthermore, I have learnt some of the business concepts such as economics which involves supply and demand. In the future, if my career involves management, I will have a brief knowledge about it because I have taken a 400 level management course in my senior year. Through my educational experiences, I am prepared to be an all rounded student by gaining different knowledge such as industrial engineering, political science and history. This general knowledge has help me to know more about the world after my graduation as an engineer such as choosing a side in political election that will benefit the country the most and income taxes that we will have to pay once we start working as full time-employment.
As an engineering student, we will have lots of engineering solving problems in order to apply our knowledge from mathemathics, science and enginnering. However, some fo the engineering problems is hard and by solving it, it is time consuming. Therefore, I discuss with my course mates to share our different ideas and technical approach to solve the problem. By having lots of discussion, I have learn to be a good team member in a team while we are dealing with projects.
In conclusion, Iowa State University has prepared me to be an all rounded student who is able to apply all the skills that I have learnt to be a successful enginneer in the future.
